Bangui – School and professional education and commitment in the health sector through the various health centers are an integral part of the mission among the pygmies that the religious of the Italian Province of the Society for African Missions are preparing to face in Central Africa by December 2021. “Already during the Provincial Assembly of July 2019, we Italian SMA fathers embarked on a new challenge: the mission in Central Africa”, they write to Agenzia Fides.
“Our community is present in the Archdiocese of Bangui and in the Diocese of Berberati, where a new team is preparing for the new mission by sending two missionaries: Fr. Michele Farina and Fr. Davide Camorani, a deacon who will be ordained a priest in the month of July. The two confreres will be welcomed in the Diocese of Berberati by Mgr. Dennis Koffi Agbenyadzi , Bishop of the Diocese”, the SMA specified in the note received.
“Michele and Davide will work together in a rural mission among the Pygmies. Our community has been very involved in recent years in the defense and human promotion of this population. Sharing the faith with the Christian communities of the region is the essential part of our mission. Let us not forget that our missionaries, leaving their land and their borders, go to meet other brothers and sisters to support and promote Life”.
For several years, other SMA Provinces have already been present in Central Africa and some SMA religious from this country are themselves missionaries in other areas of Africa. There are many and different problems that afflict this country, at a political, economic and social level. In recent years it has been hit by multiple internal armed conflicts, caused by the difficult integration and cohesion of the different ethnic groups that make it up. Furthermore, its huge mineral and natural resources trigger economic interests, internal and external, which make the political situation unstable, and keep the peace process fragile and precarious.
