Brasilia – With the theme “The Church in a permanent state of mission” and the motto “You will be my witnesses” , the Brazilian Church will officially open the Missionary Jubilee Year next Saturday, November 20, at 8 pm, live on the social networks of the Bishops’ Conference . According to the note sent to Fides, the year 2022 will be marked by the celebration of the missionary life of the Church: a mission that is carried out without borders, to reach all the peoples of all nations. The Missionary Jubilee Year will therefore be a moment of celebration to remember the missionary journey at the international and national level, as well as to project “missionary action as a paradigm of all the work of the Church.” . At the national level, the Brazilian Church remembers the 50 years of the National Missionary Council ; of the Missionary Campaigns; of the Projects of the Sister Churches; the Indigenous Missionary Council ; of the Santarém Document. In addition, the 60th anniversary of the Missionary Cultural Center and the 70th anniversary of the creation of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil .
At the international level, 2022 will mark 400 years since the founding of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples; 200 years since the birth of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith ; 100 years of the Motu Proprio of Pope Pius XI that recognizes the Mission Societies as Pontifical; 150 years after the birth of Blessed Paolo Manna, PIME, founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union. As the CNBB note specifies, the theme “The Church in a permanent state of mission” follows the intuitions of the Aparecida document that understands mission as the identity of the Church, that is, not as something optional, an activity of the Church among others, but its own nature. The Missionary Jubilee Year will therefore be an opportune moment to learn about the initiatives, projects and institutions that cooperate in the mission entrusted by Jesus to his Church.
