Caracas – “The lay ministry of the catechist: a charism for the outgoing synodal Church” is the theme of the National Week of Catechesis, to be celebrated from September, 19 to 26 in Venezuela. Promoted by the Department of Catechesis of the Permanent Secretariat of the Venezuelan Episcopate, the initiative aims to be an opportunity to deepen the ministry of the catechist, in the light of the recent Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis, “Antiquum Ministerium”.
The note from the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, also sent to Fides, illustrates the logo of the Week of Catechesis, which intends to express the gift and mission of the lay ministry of the catechist. The interlocutor of the catechesis has to raise his faith, for this reason the catechist initiates a dynamic process of accompaniment in which the breath of the Holy Spirit carries out its work. The catechist accompanies giving testimony of his experience with Christ, therefore, he teaches to sustain the faith by living the historical reality from the action of the Trinity in an encounter with the word of God. “The catechist, willing to discern the signs of the times, helps the interlocutor to grasp the breath of the Spirit to make his faith more mature and incorporate him into the community to live the joy of faith as the Virgin Mary did – continues the note of the Cev -.
The catechist seeks and finds ways to propose new life in Christ, he does so with the kerygmatic announcement”.
On the occasion of the National Week of Catechesis, the Bishops sent a video message, through the social networks of the Bishops’ Conference, acknowledging the generous work of the brothers and sisters who, responding to God’s call, dedicate their lives to accompanying the journey of faith of other brothers. In addition, two virtual formative meetings will be held with the aim of reflecting on the lay ministry of the Catechist: the first will be held on Tuesday, September 21 at 3:00 p.m. on the theme “An approach to the apostolic letter ‘Antiquum Ministerium’ ” with Fr.
