Project Gutenberg DVD-ROM (2006)

Please give away copies of this DVD and the content on it. See GIVE_AWAY.TXT for details. This DVD may not be sold. See DO_NOT_SELL.TXT for details.

The goal of this DVD is to put as much of the Project Gutenberg content as could reasonably fit on a single DVD. Project Gutenberg volunteers used an online CD/DVD image creation tool via www.gutenberg.org/cdproject.

This DVD contains about 17,500 titles, many of which have more than one file for images and other related content. All of the Project Gutenberg titles with plain text of July 2 2006 were included, in over 20 languages. To fit as many as possible, these are provided as zipped text files (ending in .zip). You will need a program to unzip the files, in order to view them — most computers have an unzip (or similar) program already.

Together, all of those zipped text files take about 90% of a standard DVD. To fill the DVD to capacity, numerous popular items were added with HTML (usually including images), as well as some interesting multimedia files including MP3 audio and MPEG video. Note that many of the eBooks presented as zipped text also have HTML counterparts, which may be easily found in the online catalog at www.gutenberg.org.

Please enjoy this DVD, and share it. The Project Gutenberg mission is to encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks. You can help to achieve that mission by giving eBooks away. You can also help by creating eBooks. For more information, view the FAQ at www.gutenberg.org, or get started the easy way at Distributed Proofreaders.
