Madrid – The NGO Misión América has just elected its new board for the next four years : the President will be Fernando Redondo Benito, of Toledo, who will take on this task, as he declared, with responsibility and enthusiasm at the service of the Church’s mission, seeking to improve the living conditions of the countries where the Spanish missionaries are present, in Latin America and Africa. Javier Carlos Gómez, delegate of the Missions of Valladolid, will join him as vice-president; secretary Pilar García Cabañero, from Albacete; Javier Sobrini as treasurer.
The members of the council are José Luis Arjona, María José Ballesteros, José María Calderón, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, and Mª Carmen García-Castro. As a Non-Governmental Organization for Development, Misión América was born on November 17, 1993, with the consensus of the Spanish missionaries expressed during one of the meetings of the Hispanic-American Priestly Work . Since then, Misión América has been linked to the Episcopal Commission for Missions and Cooperation with the Churches of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Misión América works closely with this Commission and the missionary delegations of all the dioceses, and above all with the missionaries who have found support to develop and promote small social projects.
The Elective Assembly of the NGO was hosted at the headquarters of the National Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Spain, which was also attended by the President of the Episcopal Commission for the Missions of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, Mgr. Francisco Pérez González , and the National Director of the PMS, Fr. José María Calderón Castro. According to the note sent to Agenzia Fides, the NGO Misión América is present with its delegations throughout Spain and also in Latin America, it is also part of the “Network of Solidarity Development Entities” , which is a group of 50 organizations dedicated to Development Cooperation, which aim to awaken among citizens the concern and commitment for a more just and united world, by proposing alternatives consistent with Christian values, in collaboration with other subjects and social institutions.
