Summary

Detail of a lithograph of the National Gallery at 100 Pall Mall, London, by Charles Hullmandel. The full print juxtaposed the townhouse that was housed the National Gallery with the palatial Louvre, home to France's national art collection. A quote from Hamlet was used as a caption: "look here upon this picture, and on this/ The counterfiet [sic] presentment of two brothers."
