English: a Photo of Asteroid (253) Mathilde taken by the space probe NEAR Shoemaker on 27 June 1997 from a distance of 2400 km. It is lit up by the sun from the top right. The part of the Asteroid visible in the picture has Dimensions of 59 km x 47 km, whereas the picture resolution is 380px. On the surface, numerous large craters are visible, like the Large Crater in the Centre, named Karoo [ ], which is more than 30 km wide. Most of it is shaded in the picture.
Deutsch: Asteroid (253) Mathilde von der Raumsonde NEAR Shoemaker am 27. Juni 1997 aus einer Entferung von 2400 km aufgenommen. Er wird von oben rechts von der Sonne beleuchtet. Der auf dem Bild sichtbare Teil des Asteroiden hat eine Ausdehnung von 59 km x 47 km, wobei die Bildauflösung 380 m/Bildpunkt beträgt. Auf der Oberfläche sind viele große Krater sichtbar, wie der vermutlich mehr als 10 km tiefe mit langen Schatten versehene Krater in der Bildmitte.

La partie visible de l'astéroïde sur l'image a une dimension de 59 km x 47 km, permettant une résolution d'image de 380 m/pixel. Sur la surface de nombreux grands cratères sont visibles, comme celui sans doute de plus de 10 km profondeur en raison de la longuer de l'ombre au centre de l'image.
