Free es el nombre de un grupo de Rock británico formado en Londres en 1968 conocido especialmente por su popular canción "All Right Now".

El grupo se hizo famoso por sus sensacionales conciertos y sus incesantes giras, aunque sus primeros álbumes de estudio tuvieron pocas ventas hasta el lanzamiento de "Fire and Water", el cual incluía su gran éxito "All Right Now". Esta canción les ayudó a asegurar su presencia en el Festival de la Isla de Wight (1970), donde cantaron para 600.000 personas. Como los propios miembros supervivientes de la banda han reconocido, los problemas personales se cruzaron en su camino y les impidieron alcanzar metas mayores, evitando quizás que alcanzaran todo su potencial.

Algo destacable del nacimiento de Free es la juventud de sus miembros quienes ensayan por primera vez en Nag's Head pub en Battersea, Londres, el 19 de Abril de 1968. El Bajista Andy Fraser (nació el 3 de Julio de 1952), tenía solo 15 años, el cantante Paul Rodgers (nacido el 17 de Diciembre de 1949), el gitarrista Paul Kossoff (nació el 14 de Septiembre de 1950 ), y el batería Simon Kirke (nació el 28 de Julio de 1949), todos adolescentes. En Noviembre de ese mismo año grabaron su primer álbum Tons of Sobs para Island Records, y aunque no fue lanzado hasta el año siguiente el disco documenta sus primeros seis meses juntos y contiene interpretaciones en estudio de sus primeros conciertos. Paul Kossoff y Simon Kirke se hicieron amigos en la banda de R&B Black Cat Bones pero querían moverse y vieron a Paul Rodgers cantando con Brown Sugar mientras visitaban Fickle Pickle, un club de R&B en Finsbury Park. Inmediatamente se impresionaron y formaron Free junto con Andy Fraser, el cual, a la corta edad de 15 años ya había tocado con John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. La leyenda del blues británicoAlexis Korner jugó una parte en la historia de Free recomendando a Andy Fraser, dándoles el nombre Free y animándoles en sus primeros esfuerzos.
