Czołowy zespół glamrockowy, który w latach 70., obok Gary'ego Glittera, zyskał największą popularność zarówno w Wielkiej Brytanii, jak i na światowych rynkach muzycznych. W Wielkiej Brytanii nawet do czasów obecnych najbardziej znany utwór grupy Slade to Merry Xmas Everybody (z grudnia 1973 r.), chociaż w Polsce bardziej popularne były ballady Far Far Away i Everyday.
