Something I could not understand: it is stated in the English article and here as well that the name in Yiddish is "Oshpitizin אָשפּצן".
First point, אָשפּצן is not Oshpitizin but Oshp(e)tz(e)n, which is even wrong as far as Yiddish morphology is concerned, as one would expect one of those two potential "e" at least to be written down (with the letter ע).
Second point, when you search Google for that name in Latin or Hebrew-Yiddish letters or even for the correct Hebrew-Yiddish form of the stated "Oshpitizin" (which would be אשפיטיזין or אשפיטיצין), you don't get any result at all or don't get any result besides... Wikipedia precisely!

Sorry, I don't speak any Polish... In the German article de:Oświęcim it says that the name comes from "święty" and "Oświęcim" means "Heiliger" ("Saint", holy person, singular, male). Is that grammatically correct? --62.134.228.220 16:42, 13 maja 2007 (CEST)
Leider spreche ich kein Polnisch... Im deutschen Artikel de:Oświęcim heißt es, dass der Name von "święty" kommt und "Oświęcim" "Heiliger" bedeutet (Singular, männlich, indefinit). Ist das grammatisch richtig? --62.134.228.220 16:44, 13 maja 2007 (CEST)
There should be two explanations. From "święty", but it don't seems clear in that form. Rather from "światło" (liht) and "oświecenie" (enlightness). Wulfstan 16:58, 13 maja 2007 (CEST)
