Unreal Engine – jeden z najstarszych i aktualnie (2008) najbardziej zaawansowany silnik graficzny, wykorzystywany do gier komputerowych. Wersja 1.0 została stworzona w 1997 r. przez Epic Games a swój "chrzest" przebyła w niezwykle popularnej pierwszej części gry z serii Unreal.

Pierwsza wersja Unreal Engine stała się popularna, gdyż oferowała zaawansowane efekty świetlne i atmosferyczne. Stała się ona podstawą 23 różnych gier komputerowych, jakim to wynikiem nie może poszczycić aktualnie żadna inna technologia.

Unreal Engine 2 jest najpopularniejszym silnikiem graficznym używanym w dzisiejszych produkcjach. Wydany został w 2001 r., pierwszą grą opartą na jego kodzie było Devastation. Technologia aktualnie jest prawdopodobnie najbardziej elastyczną z istniejących (nie pobito rekordu liczby poligonów przypadających na planszę ustanowionego przez Unreal Tournament 2004). Obsługuje on dynamiczne cienie i oświetlenie, oraz posiada wbudowany, jeden z najbardziej zaawansowanych silników fizycznych o nazwie Karma.

Najnowsza edycja tego popularnego silnika jest jedną z najbardziej zaawansowanych technologii jakie istnieją (porównywalna jest do grafiki filmowej). Niestety na razie nie została stworzona żadna gra na komputery osobiste, wykorzystująca w pełni jego potencjał, lecz na rok 2007 zapowiadana jest kolejna część serii Unreal Tournament oznaczona numerkiem "3", nawiązującym bezpośrednio do trzeciej generacji "Turniejów", oraz konwersja hitu z konsoli Xbox 360 Gears of War^[17]. Gears of War już na konsoli zostało uznane za najładniejszą grę roku 2006^[18].
