The Norfolk Southern megarailroad responded to the derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, by increasing its lobbying expenditures to make sure Congress does nothing to require it to hire enough workers to ensure safety. The derailment, the toxic gas leak and the fire would not have happened if the train had had a full crew.
